Oy. Every new medium just gives directors the opportunity to put shit back into the movie that they originally decided didn't belong in it in the first place.

I know its a teaser or whatever but why do the scenes look so awful? Is that really the condition of the original film? Where have they been storing it?? You're telling me Lucas can somehow make 3D versions of the original trilogy but he can't clean these up? And on blu-ray no less, which sells itself as the highest resolution possible. I certainly hope that this isn't how they're going to look.
Also these deleted scenes have been hanging just out of reach of the fans for 30 years. Once they're out there really isn't anything else that Lucas can use to re-sell the fans on some new medium.

Don't underestimate the power of the Commercial Side. I suspect Lucas will be draining money from his fans long after he becomes one with The Force.

Glad to see that annoying black blob on Palpy's temple has been removed. That has bothered me from day 1. Literally, I noticed that when I saw it in the theater as a kid.

I find it funny that he's already tweaking the prequels. It's becoming a compulsion.

I find it funny that he's already tweaking the prequels. It's becoming a compulsion. It's a never ending quest to stay current with the latest standards of video and audio technology. The scanned all of the original negatvies for the dvd's (720 pixels) and are apparently still using those scans for the higher resolution blu rays (1080 pixels). One day there will be 8k tv's and they'll have to rescan the negatives AGAIN to bring them up to that standard. Or we can all just enjoy it for what it is. There was a time when I was happy with the vhs tapes, and now people moan about the dvd's not being any good!

I know. Doesn't anybody have an inner voice urging them to turn off the targeting computer and just go with it?
The technology is strangling out the creativity and any scrap of humanity. Lucasfilm is becoming Darth Vader, more machine than man.

Maybe that is the moral of his story. Eventually, we all turn toward the dark side.

What's even more troubling is this: at least as of now the argument can still be made that they're trying to provide the experience at home that is a close as possible to the quality of the original theater experience (though I'm quite certain the blu rays will far surpass the quality of the films as shown in the typical 70's theater). But we know they're making 3d versions of these films, and though there's currently no 3d standard for tv one day there will inevitably be 3d home releases of these films as well. That is the point where the films will no longer be what they were intended to be.
That being said, I originally had no interest in these but now my inner nerd is starting to long for them. The dark side is strong!

I'm interested in the blu rays. If I ever get a blu ray player I'll buy them, but I'll always be glad I have the original versions on DVD (and VHS and Laserdisc, if it ever comes to that). But it's all just novelty now. "What will they do next?" Star Wars isn't sacred. The whole thing's just an exercise in how incessantly they can screw with a movie. It's really just a marketing exercise. "How many times can we get these morons to buy the same movie?"
