Wow, this is the most structured and focused conversation we've had on this show. It's actually almost a pity we agree on everything, a little arguing could have spiced it up a bit. But all in all a great discussion, if I do say so myself!

Discussion's as valuable as debate. You can tell how excited we are to finally talk about Frankenstein. Especially Greg, you can never get that guy to shut up.
Listen to the outtake at the end to see how in sync we are during Lynn's Skype dropout. You can tell it happens a lot.

I used to be so good with the internet thing, but now I drop off all the time.

I kept expecting Johnny Winter.

Hear that Sean? We're getting demands, the public has spoken, bring on Mr Winter!

I ruined the joke, it's Edgar, not Johnny.
I always get my winter brothers confused.

The 1910 Frankenstein was a creation of The Edison Manufacturing Company (yes THAT Edison). The creation of the monster is via a vat of chemicals, much like Sean mentioned on the show. Here is a link to the full movie. www.archive.org/details/Frankenstein_628BTW - I'm still listening to the show. So if this was covered later, my bad.

I ruined the joke, it's Edgar, not Johnny. I always get my winter brothers confused. How were we blessed with two albino musicians from the 70's but not a one since (unless you count Michael Jackson)? Riddle me that, mr dusky baritone.

I really enjoyed this discussion. One of my favorite papers in undergrad was a discussion of the novel vs. the 1931 James Whale Frankenstein. I like how you all brought out the whole abandoned child theme in the book. In a lot of ways, the 1931 Frankenstein also deals with abandonment and alienation. It would be nice if people would recognize just how complex this story really is. So often it is parboiled down to a monster story.
But you all discussed that too! Anyway, great episode.

I'm hoping the del Toro version does the book the justice that all the other versions failed to deliver.

He's apparently a big fan, and he's a great director, so hopefully he'll make something special out of it.

If any director could respect the Creature and his story, it would be del Toro.

Del Toro has a fundamental understanding of both horror and the plight of the outsider. But he's got so many things going on at the moment I feel bad getting excited about anything just in case it doesn't come off.
