Sean, Greg and Andrew discuss Iron Man 3, plus there is a little "Greg on the Throne", where Greg weighs in on the current season of Game of Thrones. They also talk a little bit about the latest season of Doctor Who. And if you're playing the TVAMD drinking game, you now have to take a drink any time they talk about Game of Thrones outside of the TV on the Throne podcast. Episode 184

I wasn't a fan of this one. With that said, I wasn't all too big a fan of the previous Iron Man flicks. I originally had no plans to watch it, but fell for the hype. I agree that the Mandarin logistically worked well with the over-the-top performance Kingsley presented. I really have a problem with the concept of reducing Iron Man's archenemy into a puppet. Just because Iron Man isn't as near-and-dear to our hearts as, say Batman; doesn't mean that his prime nemesis should be neutered. Imagine if they did the same thing with the Joker. If after all the buildup of the Dark Knight, there was a Scooby-Doo reveal that it was actually old man Egghead behind it all. The action, of course, was fun.

I actually really like the direction that they took Mandarin in. It kind of reminds me of the pomp and circumstance of 1984 and V for Vendetta.

I actually really like the direction that they took Mandarin in. It kind of reminds me of the pomp and circumstance of 1984 and V for Vendetta. I liked the idea of playing that twist with a character, I just don't think the character of the Mandarin was the right one to choose. In the comics, he is Iron Man's prime adversary. I'm sure there are a number of lesser baddies that would have been a better choice. Heck, they simply could have invented a Bin Laden type of guy and pulled it off. What really is going to eat at my craw is when they introduce magic into this Marvel world with Dr. Strange; the opportunity to introduce a true Mandarin character is going to be lost.

One of my complaints with the film is that they mention Stark has PTSD which seems reasonable but they never seem to actually give him closure about it.

I kind of like how they don't wrap up his PTSD, but it kind of just goes away when they pull out the big happy ending with blowing up the suits and fixing the heart and stuff.
I still think the Mandarin is a hard sell because he's such a stereotype. I like the idea of using that to make the character more interesting. But I've already said I wasn't a big fan of the comics, so I'm not really the one to ask.
