What is your "Comfy Pants" movie?
What is the movie you watch when you are an anxious mess?
I'm a highly introverted, socially anxious, routine loving, homebody, whose only anchor to normalcy is my very Ozzie and Harriet husband coming home every day right at 6pm to regale me with his daily stories of wacky office hijinks.
Left to my own devices, I am the crazy cat lady at the end of the street that has her groceries delivered by Meals on Wheels to avoid any and all human interaction. The stakes- they're TOO HIGH!
So when hubby's job informed him Friday he would be needed in Los Angeles for two weeks for a small emergency at their West Coast office I did what any paranoid primary school art teacher would do; I sent hubby out to stock up on toilet paper and diet coke, took all the pistols to the gun range to check that they were in sound working order, loaded the 12 gauge, and went running for the movie I've been using to unload excess stress since my early teens: BLADE RUNNER.
Tonight, I will project this visual treat up on the ceiling over the bed, turn the speakers all the way up, and recite every line by memory from start to finish. It's not my favorite movie of all time, but this and TENNEBAUMS are the two I run for when the stress levels rise. TENNEBAUMS when the stress causing issue is one of a romantic (or sometimes family) nature, and BLADE RUNNER for everything else.
And if I don't spend time writing anonymous posts to forums and watching BLADE RUNNER tonight, then where will my mind wander? I have already googled: Do humans have anal glands? Drinks you can make with only Drambuie and Coconut Rum. AND I'm surrounded by a wasted quarter ream of good paper trying to tease out the logical and proper time line that I know unifies the first two ALIEN movies. It ALL MADE perfect SENSE to me before I watched TVAMD, episodes #162- 163. Paper all over the bed, the floor, cat's pissing on graphs and charts. This is a mess! THANKS TVAMD!
Anyone else have a special movie you play when you feel out of wack? or have a special happy, celebratory movie? Or a breaking up movie? or a "someone died/ confronting my own mortality" movie?
If anyone wants to re-watch BLADE RUNNER with me, I'd appreciate it. I'll be putting mine on at 9pm EST. If you are alone tonight you can put yours on and we can pretend to share popcorn together. <3
Anyway, thought I would share that with you perfect strangers because I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like (cough) tears in rain.
"QUITE AN EXPERIENCE TO LIVE IN FEAR ISN'T IT? THAT'S WHAT IT IS TO BE A SLAVE."
