Confession in THE SHINING! No, WAIT, THE SHINING was about the massacre of the native Americans. ...Hold on, this just in- THE SHINING was about the Jewish holocaust! Nooooooooo- THE SHINING is about the Illumina....no, that's EYES WIDE SHUT? I have the sort of terribly literal mind that does not lend itself well to generating conspiracy theories. Unfortunately, they require the type of creativity I don't possess. Maybe that is why I am fascinated with those people who do find their grocery list pre-ordained in the bible code. ROOM 237, is a new documentary by Rodney Asher, which attempts to chase down some of the more interesting conspiracy theories and interpretation surrounding Kubrick's THE SHINING. They showcase 9 different sub-textual interpretations and attempt to link them to other themes that run throughout Kubrick's body of work. Unfortunately, although the movie has been circulating around for a bit, I haven't been able to find a live and kicking version of it on the net. If anyone comes across a viable link, PLEASE let me know. *** ROOM 237 movie review: www.fearnet.com/news/review/fearnet-movie-review-room-237ROOM 237 website: room237movie.com/Real live conspiracy theorist explaining how Kubrick confesses to fake moon landing footage via SHINING: ROOM 237 Q & A with director and producer: ***I will update as soon as I find an actual copy of ROOM 237.

'Room 237' is up on the Pirate Bay. There is a huge ass 4 gig version and earlier today there was a 400 mb file which I downloaded. It looks and sounds fine on my laptop. Movie was just o.k. I got too worked up and kind of ruined it for myself.

I watched some of this documentary (if I can even call it that) last night. It seems as though it's just interviews (loosely used term) with some of these theorists played over bits of various movies (I was a bit put off when the first thing I saw was Tom Cruise!). There is a bit where the person being "interviewed" (really it's more like they've just said "talk about your theory" and chucked a mic in front of them) suddenly has to run off to silence his wailing son in the background. So it's more like listening to a podcast or something recorded from home. The thing I find amusing about this is how very convinced all these people are about their theories based on so very little evidence. The thing about the Massacre of the Native Americans is based mainly on some soup cans. Mostly the interviewees take the perspective that such a smart man as Kubric must have had some hidden meanings in his movies, and he did every little bit of set design deliberately, so the particular piece of set design they are looking at must have been a message from Kubric that means exactly what they think it means. A little bit of a leap from "Kubric probably put riddles into his movies" to "so the answer to the riddle must be what I believe it to be" but we all like to see reinforcement of our own opinions in the strangest places. I like the one where the man walks in front of a pile of books and it makes him look like he has an erection. It's like, are you ten years old? Really? But alas, the same man was saying that Kubric had "airbrushed" an image of himself into the clouds in the opening credits just after his name. No matter how much they slowed down the frame rate (much of this documentary is rewatching bits of The Shining at very slow rate of progression) I couldn't see any Kubric in the clouds. Though it would have been a cool thing to do.
