Loved the original. Not sure if it qualifies as a "Movie from the Vault", but damn close if not. This one looks like it could be an interesting revisit to the idea. Not sure I like the cope-out of avoiding China as the primary antagonist, but oh well. It's not like the concept is overly realistic to begin with.

So who is the invading army here?
It's got Thor in it, so that's something. Though I liked the idea of the original being just high school kids, not marines. When I was a kid that shot of the parachutes falling down outside the school window was one of the scariest things I'd seen. I'm unsure about this one.

Try not to laugh...North Korea. Was originally China, but it was changed in post.

Creepy how they think all asian populations are interchangeable to the movie going audience. They all look the same, right?
I suppose, oddly enough, North Korea probably is the only country that would actually try something like that, and, more importantly, the only market hollywood isn't worried about offending.

It's also disturbing how they push so far to the middle that they try to find a baddie no one can disagree about. "We can't demonize China, they make our plastic things! And most of our American flags." Who are some Asians we can all agree on disagreeing with? North Korea! That was topical enough for people to have heard of it without knowing anything about it! Sure, let's hate them!
China works because China's one of the only places with the resources to actually invade America, but North Korea? Whatever.
And as far as knowing one Asian culture from another, I gave up on that when the Karate Kid was about a kid being taught Kung Fu.
