With Disney doing a Wizard of Oz update maybe it's time to revisit our remakes episode and do a follow-up. Wizard of Oz is one of the movies I remember saying they should remake.
Along with the Day the Earth Stood Still, which turned out to be a disaster.

No. No. No no no.
Wizard of Oz is one of my all-time favorite movies, precisely because it's steeped in history and makes me nostalgic for a time that I never experienced. One of the greatest things about the original was the switch from black and white to technicolor. And the new one makes it look like a gimmick.
I feel like they're trying to ruin my childhood.

This isn't a remake, this is a prequel.

I still say that once a movie reaches a certain status they should not be remade. Wizard of Oz definitely qualifies as a film icon. Just like Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane, and, dare I say, Star Wars, it will never work to remake a movie that's so deeply ingrained in our culture and history. It will always come off as inferior, even if its technically not.
