Has anyone here seen it? I guess not, as it's now said to be the biggest flop in history (replacing cutthroat island) with a estimated 200 million dollar loss. What were they thinking??

I had no desire to watch it. Even less now.

I mention this in the upcoming new ep, but I saw it and I liked it. It's good fun and it's pretty respectful to the source material. I think after 100 years it's probably just too late to try to introduce the Hunger Games crowd to John Carter. Teens gravitate to angst and melodrama, not adventure.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why it doesn't look appealing to me but it doesn't. It seems to have all the things I would enjoy in a movie but for some reason I had no desire to see it. The new titans movie, on the other hand, looks pretty awesome to me, and the trailers for the two movies are pretty similar (just scenes of a guy fighting huge monsters). I think one thing they should have done is give it a better title. Something more epic sounding. That character is too old for the name alone to sell it.
Having seen it, do you think it looked like a 350 million dollar movie? I imagine it would have to look pretty spectacular to have cost so much. Especially since it doesnt have any big stars in it.

It's packed with CG, but I will never understand why that's so expensive.
I think the CG is the disconnect. Even I wasn't too excited about it, and I wanted to see a John Carter movie. Everything's got FX to the roof. Who cares? But I think the story is fun.
They needed to market the idea. No one knows who this character is, so they should have worked to make him known to people. Instead the marketing shied away from the concept and a March release is absurd for a $350 mil movie. I understand why they thought this had blockbuster potential, but I don't understand why they tanked the release so bad.
