I'm not watching this flick til someone tells me what it's about. They keep telling me to like it because other people like it. What's it about?

I have no idea and no real desire to watch it. If I am going to watch a silent film, I'd rather watch a historic film instead of a modern facsimile.
I will say that as soon as I heard that it was a main-stream silent film, I was certain it was going to win the Oscar.

So it's a silent movie too? That sounds like a concept that would run out of steam. I rented this "Call of Cthulhu" adaptation that looked promising, but it was a silent movie. I couldn't finish it. Silent films are only valuable for historical purposes; it's not the same as shooting in black and white for artistic reasons. If you remade Metropolis you wouldn't make it a silent film, you'd use the resources of the time to adapt the story in the best way possible.

I haven't watched it either, for the same reasons, but from what I read isn't it about a silent actor who can't make it as a film actor so he falls in love with a girl with nice legs so he can dance in talking films and still be a star? So it's like a rom com without all the terrible dialogue?
