I've finally finished reading the Slaves of Heaven. My response to the book is a mix of disappointment and surprise. I'm disappointed that the book is nowhere near as smutty as the excerpts brought to us by St. John led me to believe. I'm surprised that the book is much better than I expected it to be. I'm not saying it's great literature or anything but it's pretty smart, interesting, and creative. It's kind of a Buck Rogers meets Brave New World noble savage story with the breast obsessed Berry taking on the more technically advanced but less cunning citizens of Heaven Seven. Not good enough to track down, but also not bad enough to warrant a full reading from St. John probably.
There is one awesome part where Berry is separated from Vron and gets busy with a girl named Tala. Later Vron returns and asks Berry if he has "lain with her." He proudly proclaims that he has and that she may yet bear him a child. Vron promptly claims that she loves Tala because Tala has given Berry pleasure, and then Vron and Tala kiss. Hot....

It's pretty funny, I read this a couple of months ago too and I agree with your assessment; it's actually quite readable and so blatantly misogynistic that it's difficult to be angry with its stupidity. Like a little kid telling you girls are stupid cos they've got cooties.
