Yep, except I don't think any of these laws will be programmed into anything, because the people who will develop the robots will be the military, so no harming people and independant thought are already way out. That's why they're going to destroy us all. I still say no robots at all.

I don't know , i think the future of robots will be very depressing and scary. People don't even behave around other human beings much less robots, i can only imagine how people will use robots to take advantage of other people, hurt them, enslave them, etc....
However, if we had robots to do everything for us (work etc..) then we'd have more time to create art and read and learn music, etc.. -

I have mixed feelings. Everything we've ever made has appealed to our worst nature at first, but eventually our better nature takes hold. We tend to get things right over time, so if the robots don't destroy us first, we may end up having a positive future because of them.

Look, the porn on the internet hasn't gone away, there's just more things out there that drown out its noise a little. I still get those penis enlargement emails...

Who says a world without porn is the goal? I just want a future where it's not a world of ONLY porn. A little porn here and there is okay.

I'm using the porn as an example, Gilbert, because I'm talking about all the bad things that could happen with robots. Are you saying it's going to be ok if there's just a little killer robots?

How come you're all obsessed with robots being violently malicious in nature? Isn't the idea of creating robots to make life easier or at least more comfortable...else what is the point? To just create something cool? I think you've not sufficiently adressed in these episodes what robots actually can contribute but instead got caught up too deep into 'how can we prevent them from turning into living nightmares'.

I was starting to question our goals there for a minute. OK, so maybe eleventy-thirty laws is overthinking things a bit. But I like the focus on regulating what inventors shouldn't hardcode, rather than what they should. That jives with my parenting philosophy... leaves the door open to self-determination.

Oh no, does this mean we have to do another robot episode?
I think maybe we should continue that discussion here on the forum. I really do think robots can be a positive force in the future, but we have to get past our real fears about them and ourselves first.

I created a "What Can Robots Do For You?" board so we can discuss the benefits of the robot future.

I think you've not sufficiently adressed in these episodes what robots actually can contribute but instead got caught up too deep into 'how can we prevent them from turning into living nightmares'. Jeez Glip, you might as well ask how zombies can be good for us, or Vampires. How about we make the robots sparkly and give them dreamy eyes? Robots are all evil. That's all there is to it. Also I think I mentioned that I rather think that the military will at least misappropriate robot technology to kill people. Really my fear of robots comes down to my deep mistrust of people, who will be the ones programming them. Anyway, there's not much use planning for the robots being useful. That's what the programmers are there for. I'm a zombie general, I plan for the worst because I want to survive. I think both discussions are relevant. But the evil robot discussion is more fun. To me. Continue normal programming....
