People, I have previously announced that Neil Patrick Harris will be on Glee, but since most of you are mieh towards Glee you weren't terribly excited. Well, I have just learnt that Joss Whedon will actually be directing the episode featuring Neil Patrick Harris (Why does it feel weird to attempt any abbreviation of his impossibly long name?) I await your indifference.

So, Glee has finished up for the year with a suitably schmaltzy finale. I actually thought that the mid season final was a much better episode, much more moving. I'm going to do a brief analysis, so SPOILER ALERT here. I thought the baby thing went ok, the birthing scene accompanied by Queen was cool though I didn't think that Vocal Adrenalin was as strong as they have been earlier in the series. And where were all those other better members that we met earlier in the series, is Jessie the only one who can sing there now? The whole cartoony idea of the judges who don't know how to judge properly was funny in the last one but this time, at such an important juncture, it really felt forced and fake to me because I know how these things are judged and it's not going to be that silly. Sue coming around to their side felt forced because they wanted to have them lose for emotional resonance. That was my biggest problem, the idea that they made them lose to try to make everyone cry. It was cheesy, the whole episode was cheesy though. Way too much cheese, especially when they're all telling their teacher how he's awesome and a father figure. And bringing Emma back in just for this last episode... I've missed her and now it doesn't feel as genuine that we just haven't seen her, they've just brought her back just because it worked in the last finale we did. Also, several storylines didn't get resolved. What happened with Kirt and Finn's parents since Finn went on his homophobic rant and got them kicked out by Kirt's dad? What was with that random druggie slut teacher who appeared for one episode just to be annoying? What's going on with Will's ex-wife being in love with Finn too? Why would Olivia Newton-John come down to a nothing state which she hates just to judge a minor level of Glee competition if she's such a diva? If Puck wanted a threesome why didn't he just get Santana and Britney to do it, they've admitted to having some lesbian action. How come they never use any of the songs they do in practice in their big performances? What happened to Accafellas? Who is that dude who plays the piano and why is he always there even when they're in some other auditorium alone after hours? How did that "other asian" ever get on the football team? Why did Finn need to get a new job when Rachel already got him a job pretending to be disabled in the wheelchair when Quinn was mad at him about not making money for the baby? Why do Finn and Quinn's names rhyme, that's just weird. If you think of any others, I know someone on this forum has to watch Glee, write em up.
So, uhh, for deferring to schmaltz to try to make the viewers cry over realistic storytelling and even anything that felt emotionally resonant, I give the Glee finale 5/10.
