Ew! What happened? Did more people see? People are such tight-asses, just pay for your meal! I had a friend who really got a cockroach in her pie once. The people who sold it to her baked her a cake as an apology. She decided not to eat it. In both cases, I was the only one who stepped forward. In the first one, I told my manager what really happened while it was happening (before the guy came up to the counter). My manager was a big, tough softball player who towered over this guy. He was also a smart guy. He stood behind the counter and refused the guy any refund. As the guy got redder and redder in the face, he eventually threatened to kick my managers ass after work and stormed out (after paying). He never showed. In the second one, the manager listened to what the old couple had to say. As a repeat customer there, I was familiar with the manager and told him what I saw. The old lady called me a lair and the old man told me I needed to mind my own business. The manager suggested calling the police and letting them sort it out. The couple said they had to be somewhere, that they would pay, and that they would never return again. When the old man left he gave me the finger. The manager gave my wife and I a discount on our meal, which I role over into the waitresses tip (knowing that old couple stiffed her).

I'm behind you on the tipping thing. I've had that argument so many times. You may not like the way the world works, but don't take it out on people who work in restaurants. I also don't like it when people are mean to the wait staff like all of a sudden they're lordly because there's someone there that has to serve them. You learn a lot about people by observing how they behave when they feel like they can get away with it.

We're not so big on tipping over here. I know in America your waiters make up a good portion of their salary on tips, but here we just pay them properly to start with, tipping isn't expected. I remember one time when we were little my sister tipped the pizza man 5 cents and was chuffed with her own generousity. Thanks for the ends of the stories Gary!
