Anyone else watching this? It's actually starting to hold my attention this season. The writing seems a little more creative.

I saw about 5 minutes of an ep and it looked pretty sharp; I think I'll netflix it.

Does he sing? I like it when he sings. And wears suits.

This is a good show. Watched the majority of the first season, which had several excellent episodes, with the majority being rote fantasy. I've only seen the first episode of the second season, but it looks to me like they've upped their game, which is great to see. The three leads started out as fantasy archetypes, but through watching the stories you get to learn something about each character and their attitudes and behaviors. Some of the stories are mere "monster of the week" fare, but at least we haven't been subjected to orcs, dwarves, and elves. That stuff's okay, but its nice to see a fantasy show aim a little higher. It's also on Hulu, for those without Netflix.

It seems like most of the good fantasy is having to be on TV these days, the movies are all aimed at kids.

Dave, episode 5 was a lot of fun ... you should get caught up! My kids love Legend of the Seeker ... it has some dark themes (apparently toned down quite a bit from the books) but the only thing that freaks them out is the kissing ;D I've still got fingers crossed for Game of Thrones. It hasn't been picked up, but HBO's sunk a lot of money into it already.

Kids are funny about kissing. Ben's little sister still insists that kissing is gross and that she'll never change her mind about it. I feel wise telling her she'll understand when she's older.

The books are a bit darker and the TV show doesn't closely follow the plot of the books. Call me low-brow, but I prefer the TV show. I hope to catch up with the show soon (football will be over in a month, except for a few games), and I'll make sure to catch episode 5.

I've read some pretty scathing rants about the books and their author, so if anything, you may be higher brow with the TV show. ;D

Funny, I just caught up with this show yesterday. I was somewhat impressed. It has all the generic setup and cheesy comedy that the genre suffers from, but I was surprised by the the maturity of some of the plots and themes. Now I'm hooked. They're pretty creative with how the episodes are structured, def not your normal monster of the week formula.
