So I finally saw this second Downey movie and I liked it even less than the first. Whereas the first one I gave a pass to because it was doing something new, this felt like just one slow mo explosion after another with little point. All the characters are underused, and the ending is just silly.
I spoke with another of my friends who also found it disappointing, and he asked immediately if I'd been watching the BBC version as he had. We think that seeing the same story (roughly) done in such a far superior fashion made us dislike this one. You really can't compare the two, but you do because you do.
Also Ben was cranky that they increased the scale to a global one, he thinks it's just silly making Holmes have to save the entire world. He's not superman.
I liked the hand-held machine guns though, where do I get me one of those?
Also, if you're trying to chase someone in your munitions factory and you have them stuck up against a brick wall do you really fire a cannon at them? Really? Just to blow a hole in the wall to let them out? Seriously? Then find an even bigger cannon to blow up everything, really, they would have taken out the pursuers as well as the pursued in that case.
But I did like the way they used Watson's both military and medical knowledge for the first time.
But all in all far too stupid and silly for me to enjoy, in the face of things.
Also they had the aircon up too much, I was totally freezing the entire movie!
