Finally went to see this. If you liked the first one, this is a worthy sequel, though the absence of Rachel McAdams is a big loss to the movie. She's so great in that role. It'll take more than a gypsy woman to replace her.
This is a good movie that honors the style of the first. This is more of a direct adaptation where the first was more like a follow-up built around the existing stories. But this is an expanded adaptation of "The Adventure of the Final Problem" rather than a return of the Moriarty character, which is what I thought they were getting at in the first movie.
My cousin pointed at that the movie has basically the same plot as League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, where Moriarty wants to incite a World War in order to profit from it, but this movie is better and I really enjoyed the characters and the humor and the adventure of it.

I enjoyed the updated action shots, e.g, when Holmes goes through a "trial run" in his head but it doesn't exactly fall into plan. The relationship between this Holmes and Moriarty was way more intriguing than the BBC modern take.

Really? I hate Rachel McAdams. She's so boring. This just came out here, we'll see it soon. I'm not saying I'll like the gypsie woman but Rachel didn't do it for me.

Oh, I think she's great. I just find her adorable. I also like that they pulled her character from the stories and expanded her into Holmes' Catwoman for the movie. Moriarty gets that same expansion into a diabolical supervillain in the new movie.
