What is Goa-Trance-music? Not familiar with that, sounds interesting. This is some Goa Trance of what I was listening to back then... seems totally awkward now coming out of two little speakers from my computer when I used to play this stuff booming from the speakers in a bar where I worked. Good times, good times.... These days I guess I don't go out dancing anymore so I feel myself slipping towards middle of the road music. What have I become? I used to be cool.... I feel so uncool sometimes because I'm really not able to hear/understand the difference between all the electronic genres (house/trance/techno/dubstep etc). And there are dozens of them, DOZENS of subtly different genres. I mean, check out this list for heaven's sake: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_electronic_music_genresI really enjoyed what was once known as trip hop (particularly tricky) and I get the sound of ambient, but all of the current styles with the 4 on the floor beat sound kind of the same to me. Maybe I'm just getting old, where's my Bing Crosby??

How do the kids dance to these musics today? I don't hear no waltzing beat.

I'm a big fan of trip-hop too.

Well that was just a sign of those times. Especially in Europe there was this trend of making electro-techno-house-beat-rave-stuff less and less about melody and more about just the bassbeat. I'm talking late 90's. And I guess, for me, it is a guilty pleasure.
Nowadays I get to hear so much new stuff coming out doing my radio-work it's hard to tell what exactly is considered pop music.
Last week I found myself smiling just because there was an old Madness song on and I thought 'wow, this is something I haven't heard in ages! Why isn't this played anymore?'

Last week I found myself smiling just because there was an old Madness song on and I thought 'wow, this is something I haven't heard in ages! Why isn't this played anymore?' The seismic shifts in the music industry and the upheaval caused by digital distribution has definitely fractured what was once a united front of record labels telling us what's what. While in a way that's good, it's also making it much harder to keep up, especially for us older folk. Madness only had one hit here in the states, but I miss that track too. I'm telling you, the 80's was the perfect mix of innovation and accessibility, a time where you could hear Madness and Lionel Richie on the same radio station. Now all we get is Gaga. I'm getting depressed thinking about it... what was the subject of this thread again??

Madness (like the Beat...or the "English" Beat here in the states) had other minor hits here, but that wave of ska didn't catch on too big over here in the late 70's/early 80's.

Other minor hits huh? Name 12! Quick! I vaguely remember that must be love song, but I can't remember any more. Of course I was kind of young I suppose.

I just watched "Super". I think James Gunn is the perfect director to tackle the wacky dramedy and magical realism that is my life story.
But if it were the college years, maybe Judd Apatow. Anyone seen "Undeclared"? Those pretty much were my college years (Or YEAR - the show only lasted one season).
Speaking of which, Jay Baruchel would make a good young Brooks.

Here are some casting tips for the inevitable Apocalypse Party movie: Adam Scott would make a good Brooks... Jason Segal is my preferred Gilberto... Jerry Ferrara as Greg Wilson would not appear much in the film since he's barely in the book, but if he were I see Jason Lee... With Ryan Reynolds as Dane... ...And Selma Blair as Tracy.

Wait, which Tracy?

I will approve this casting if "Dane" agrees to do like in every photo I've seen of him and have his shirt off the entire movie.

Wait? Which movie? And why am I not in it much? Did you remove the cool years from your life?
Also, I approve of Jason Lee. Good decision.

My friend Tracy, who is in the book. Selma Blair resembles her. If I looked like Ryan Reynolds I would never wear a shirt.
Much as I hate to admit it, Wilson, I think Jason Lee would be perfect for you.
And for the record, you wouldn't be in the movie because you're hardly in the book because you didn't come to the Apocalypse Party! I don't make the rules, people. If you want to be in my adventures, show up for my parties. Not that every party turns into a zombie apocalypse. You just never know.
