No theatrical release? I'm disappointed. Not sure. HDNet Movies occasionally gets films before they hit the theater or before they go direct to DVD. In my current anti-theater state of being, I haven't looked to see which of these applies to Hobo.

I saw this at the art theatre in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. It was pretty good. It definitely has that 80's action feel to it...like Robocop meets Troma.

I'm all for it. Doubt it'll be in a theater around here, though.

Yeah, I doubt it will even get to Australia. This is why I download movies, not to shit on the movie industry, but because it shits on me. Well, given the probable quality of this movie maybe it's saving me from shit...

It's streaming on netflix. An extravaganza of gory violence! What's awesome about it is it creates the ultimate dystopian city of the kind you see in 80's action movies. The kind of city that has you constantly asking yourself "Who would live here?? Wait a minute, a school bus?! There are kids this city?? Who would bring kids into this hell?!!" Kind of like the Crow city but worse.
And the bad guys are a fun cartoonish interpretation of the over the top 80's bad guy. They kind of remind me of the bad guys in "Rumble in the Bronx" (except these bad guys are much more violent, of course)

That's what makes it special. It's an endless onslaught of screaming and mindless violence with the artistic sensibility of a Gwar video, but then Rutger Hauer brings in this intense authentic performance right in the middle and becomes the shotgun-wielding voice of reason that actually makes the whole mess seem like a metaphor for something more profound.
