I watched Black Death (2010) last night. It was on HDNet Movies for one of those "sneak peaks" before it is out in theaters. It was pretty good, in my book. It is a historically based thriller/mystery film with some horror-like elements (though I wouldn't classify it as a horror flick). It stars Sean Bean (Johnny Drama in the making?), Eddie Redmayne (seems to be in every old world period piece these days), and the lovely Carice von Houten. As the title implies, the story is set during the bubonic plague ravaged England, 1348. A band of knights, lead by the Bean, are charged with the task of investigating a town that is not touched by the pestilence and is rumored to have a leader capable of raising the dead. Bean seeks out a monk to guide them to the town and the spiritually troubled Redmayne volunteers. I don't want to give too much more away, but the story has parallels to the Salem Witch Trials and the Wicker Man. If you get the chance to check it out, I give it a good recommend.
