-- +\\\// 4†3 /|\`/ |)!|\|/\/3/2 is t3h r0xx0rz !-- I've come across a few of these words during my xbox travels. Terms like n00b and pwnage I see/hear all the time (cause I'm a n00b who's constantly being pwned). But I had no idea this kind of thing was so complex! This is the language the robots will speak when they're grinding us all into dust: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeetspeakAlso, did you know emoticons go back to the 1800's?!en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoticon#History

I remember how confused I was when my friends all started lolling at me. 1800s? Ben has only just discovered them!

the internet subculture is another one of those things that I find strangely fascinating. I wonder if the guys would want to do a show about it without ranting too much?

I'd support that, you're a pop culture show so it makes sense. I reckon it would be less of a rant and more of an ongoing arguement between Greg and Sean over facebook though. I'd support that too.

There's a great and imminent danger here of us looking like the old farts we really are. This stuff is really the domain of the young. Or at least those who are a little more internet savvy. I remember hearing about BBS's some 20 years ago (wow, has it been that long?!) and to this day I've never done that or IRC or any of the standard internet deallys.

Yep, I've got no idea what any of those acronyms mean. I do facebook, that's about as good as I get online.

Those are the underground ways people used to chat and share files before the aol and napster days came in the mid/late 90's. I don't even know what the current underground things are. I keep reading these wikipedia pages trying to learn. How nerdy is that?!

Oh, like torrents and stuff? ok, I get you, it's not a nerd reference I don't get it's an old reference I don't get, since I didn't have an internet computer till I was 17.

yeah you missed out on most of the early days of internet nerdery. Some of this stuff goes back to the 70's.

I'd be down to discuss that. I am addicted to the internet. Also if anyone else has seen the social network you guys could do a review.

Maybe we could do it as a follow-up to the language episode. If you're up for it, Tracy, we could record it sometime early next year. Maybe we should wait until the Social Network is on DVD since I missed it in theaters. I like the language aspect, because stuff like this is what causes the language to evolve. Might be interesting to look into. Maybe we can bring in Tracy and Lynn together for this one.

Sure! Next year would be great because I'll get my new interpreting schedule then too so I'll know when my availability is.

I'm sure my life will be as empty next year as it is this year, so you know I'm up for it. I don't know how much help I'll be, I'm such an old man on these things, I have teenage friends and they're always laughing at me because I write whole words all the time. The love of the English language is one of the topics Sean and I really do agree on. And I've got a good handle on the History of the English Language from my uni.

It could be broader than that, like how the internet is affecting communication style and relationships with others, attention span and education. Or something.
